MATATO calls on all authorities and tourist establishments for better awareness and instructions for tourists on safety standards

MATATO raises concern and urgent need for better awareness and stricter safety standards following a series of unfortunate incidents in various tourist establishments this month.

The association acknowledges Tourism Ministry’s initiation of a campaign to re-inspect all tourist accommodation facilities to ensure the execution of safety standards for travelers. At the same time MATATO calls on all stakeholders to join hands in a collective effort, by organizing individual initiations that will assist to create better awareness and education for tourists to avoid unfortunate incidents in the future. For a nation heavily dependent on the tourism industry, repeated headlines on such incident can have irreversible effects on the image of the destination. Especially in the islands where local tourism is prominent, we encourage local communities and private sector to support and encourage programs that will ensure that tourists are well informed of safety standards and risks in areas where they frequent.
