The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ADK Hospital to enhance the Maldives’ position as a medical tourism destination. The agreement was formalised at a ceremony held on 12 December 2024 at MMPRC Headquarters, with MMPRC’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shiuree, and ADK’s Managing Director, Ahmed Afaal, signing on behalf of their respective organisations.
The collaboration marks a new chapter in the Maldives’ tourism diversification efforts, expanding beyond its established reputation for luxury travel. With a growing global demand for high-quality healthcare services in attractive destinations, this partnership aims to showcase the Maldives as a destination offering both natural beauty and advanced medical facilities.
Speaking at the signing, MMPRC CEO Ibrahim Shiuree noted that incorporating medical tourism aligns with the government’s vision of diversifying tourism offerings. Shiuree highlighted the potential economic benefits, emphasising that medical tourism will contribute to healthcare development while strengthening the Maldives’ appeal in the global travel market.
ADK Hospital’s Managing Director Ahmed Afaal echoed this sentiment, outlining the initiative as a step towards leveraging the Maldives’ pristine environment and strong hospitality sector to attract international patients seeking top-tier medical care.
