Vaavu Atoll Council has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Lewini Hotels and Resorts to develop the first floating resort in the Maldives. The agreement was signed by the President of Vaavu Atoll Council Shujau Ali and the Vice President of Lewini Dr. Varisa Limsakul.
The floating resort is expected to be completed within three years and will be developed on 6,038sqm of a lagoon near V. Rakeedhoo. The resort will have 40 rooms with each room estimated to cost between MVR 1.3 million and MVR 1.4 million. Additionally, 5 restaurants and two staff accommodation buildings will be developed.
Shujau stated that under this agreement, within 36 months, physical work on the floating resort will commence.
He further stated that the atoll council is expecting increase in job opportunities as the floating resort will bolster the tourism and other developments of the atoll.
