Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and the Uligan Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance maritime services and develop a yacht marina in Haa Alif Uligan. The agreement was formalised in a ceremony held at the Uligan Council, with MPL Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim representing the company.

The MoU outlines MPL’s commitment to constructing a yacht marina in Uligan, along with the necessary facilities to provide comprehensive services to yachts. CEO Mohamed Wajeeh announced that the practical work for establishing the marina would commence this year, with the project expected to be completed within six months. The concept for the marina has been finalised and is currently under discussion with the investors.

This initiative aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to expand the maritime sector in the Maldives. Uligan has historically been a popular destination for yachts, but the island has faced challenges due to a lack of adequate services. The development of the yacht marina aims to address these issues and provide a boost to the local economy.

In addition to the marina, MPL is also planning to construct offices for international banking and maritime services, which is expected to create new job opportunities in the region. The project marks a significant step forward in enhancing Uligan’s infrastructure and services, making it a more attractive destination for international visitors.
