The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) has announced the dismissal of Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim from his position as Managing Director and Board Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL). The decision was made public through a post on PCB’s official X account on Sunday evening, though no formal reason was provided for the move.
Wajeeh, who holds a master’s degree in business from Anglia Ruskin University in the UK, has had a long association with MPL, having previously served as General Manager and Assistant General Manager. His experience extends beyond the maritime sector, having also worked as a primary school teacher in Fuvahmulah earlier in his career.
The leadership change at MPL comes amid a period of transition within several key state-owned enterprises, though it remains unclear who will be appointed to replace Wajeeh. MPL plays a vital role in the country’s trade and logistics sector, overseeing key port operations that facilitate the movement of goods across the Maldives.
With Wajeeh’s departure, attention now turns to how MPL will navigate its operational priorities under new leadership.
