Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has undocked and begun initial tests of their new dredger ‘Mahaa Jarraafu’.
The dredger was constructed by Netherlands company IHC in a Chinese Boatyard, and MTCC’s CEO Ibrahim Ziyath and Chairman Ahmed Niyaz attended the ceremony to launch the vessel. This hopper suction vessel, which will be able to dredge sand from up to 50 meters below, is over 92 meters long and 16 meters wide, and is capable of reclaiming a hectare of land in two days.
MTCC has announced that they hope to bring the dredger to Maldives by March this year, and expressed their confidence that this new addition to their fleet will greatly help with several developmental and infrastructure works planned for the years ahead.
