Ooredoo Maldives Appoints Shadi Qawasmi as Managing Director and CEO

Ooredoo Maldives has appointed Shadi Qawasmi as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 February 2026, according to an announcement issued by the company.

Qawasmi brings more than a decade of experience across telecommunications, strategy, and brand management. He joined the Ooredoo Group in 2015 and has held several senior roles at Ooredoo Palestine, including Chief Commercial Officer, Sales Director, and Head of Brand and Communications. In those roles, he was involved in market expansion initiatives, technology rollouts, and organisational restructuring. Prior to joining the Group, he worked in management consulting, business development, and integrated marketing communications, advising organisations on growth strategy and digital transformation.

He holds a Master’s degree in Marketing Management from EDHEC Business School in France and a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Communications from Brigham Young University in the United States.

The appointment follows the conclusion of the tenure of Khalid Hassan M A Al-Hamadi, who led the company through a period of network expansion and platform development. During his time as CEO, Ooredoo Maldives rolled out nationwide 4G+ coverage, expanded 5G services, deployed the PEACE submarine cable, and introduced new digital platforms and partnerships. The company also opened its headquarters in Hulhumalé and advanced several corporate social responsibility initiatives.

In its statement, Ooredoo Maldives said the leadership transition comes as the company continues to focus on digital services, network capability, and enterprise solutions. As of 31 December 2025, Ooredoo Maldives reported revenues of MVR 2.22 billion and a profit after tax of MVR 727 million. The company is listed on the Maldives Stock Exchange.
