Ooredoo Maldives Donates Specialised Dive Equipment to MNDF Coast Guard

Ooredoo Maldives has donated specialised underwater dive equipment to the Maldives National Defence Force, strengthening the Coast Guard’s capacity to carry out underwater safety, security and rescue operations across Maldivian waters.

The donation adds new operational tools for underwater communication and diver safety, areas that are critical for maritime operations in an island nation where search and rescue, security and maintenance activities often take place below the surface and under demanding conditions.

The equipment includes a digital dual-channel underwater communication system, an underwater loudspeaker and full-face diving masks designed to improve coordination, situational awareness and safety during underwater missions. These tools enable clearer communication between divers and surface teams, supporting more efficient and safer operations.

The equipment was officially handed over at Bandaara Koshi by Khalid Al-Hamadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Maldives, to Defence Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon. The donated equipment will be used by the Coast Guard, which operates under the Maldives National Defence Force.

The specialised dive equipment was previously used during Ooredoo Maldives’ Guinness World Record attempt for the largest underwater panel discussion, held in B. Fulhadhoo in 2025 to mark the company’s 20th anniversary. That event was conducted with extensive operational support from the MNDF. Through the donation, the equipment is now being redeployed for ongoing national maritime operations.

Speaking at the handover, Al-Hamadi said the donation reflects the importance of ensuring that innovation continues to serve a broader national purpose, particularly in a country where the ocean is central to everyday life. He noted that the equipment would support safer and more effective underwater operations carried out by the MNDF in challenging environments.

Chief of Defence Force Ibrahim Hilmy expressed appreciation for the contribution, noting that advanced underwater equipment is essential for strengthening the Coast Guard’s operational readiness. He said the donation would enhance the MNDF’s ability to respond to maritime challenges and conduct underwater operations more effectively.

Ooredoo Maldives said the initiative aligns with its wider commitment to innovation, community support and national safety, particularly where technology can play a direct role in strengthening operational capabilities.
