The highly anticipated Ooredoo Masrace 2024 is set to make a grand return this August, with a prize pool of MVR 126,000. The annual fishing competition, which has become a cherished tradition within the community, promises to be even bigger and more exciting this year. The event will take place across three islands: Himmafushi, Naifaru, and Thinadhoo City.
Since its inception, Masrace has captured the hearts of communities nationwide, bringing people together through the joy of fishing. Deeply rooted in Maldivian culture, the event showcases the rich fishing heritage of the Maldives. At a press conference held in Himmafushi today, Ooredoo Maldives announced its partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources and the opening of registration for interested participants via the online portal.
“We are excited to join hands with the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources in organising Ooredoo Masrace 2024. As a community-focused company, we invite all fishing enthusiasts to join us and be a part of the biggest fishing competition in the Maldives,” said Khalid Al-Hamadi, Managing Director and CEO of Ooredoo Maldives.
Minister of State for Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Mohamed Mutholib, added, “We are delighted to partner for Ooredoo Masrace 2024, a significant event that celebrates our fishing heritage. Together, we aim to empower our communities to uphold our traditions and spread awareness about safeguarding our marine resources for future generations. I encourage our youth to participate in events like this as it fosters a sense of companionship and allows them to connect with our traditional values.”
Interested participants from Himmafushi, Naifaru, and Thinadhoo City can register their teams via the online portal from 17th July to 24th July 2024. Each team should consist of 8 to 12 members, including the captain and officials.
