The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) appointed new chairpersons to the boards of two major state-owned enterprises—Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) and Housing Development Corporation (HDC)—on Thursday. Ayesha Nur’ain Janah was appointed as the Chairperson of MACL, and Ahmed Shaheer was appointed as the Chairperson of HDC.
Ayesha previously served as Chairperson of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and was recently named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
Ayesha has previously served as Vice Chair of Hotels & Resorts Investment Maldives (HARIM) and Executive Vice Chair at HRC Pvt Ltd, a prominent Maldivian resort construction firm known for delivering large-scale projects. She has led strategic diversification across multiple sectors, including hospitality, construction, and marine products. A Chartered Accountant by profession, she also worked in EY New Zealand’s Turnaround and Restructuring Strategy team and has held over a decade of non-executive leadership roles in philanthropic, startup, and public sectors. Ayesha is the founder of two leadership-focused organisations: Rehendhi Coaching & Consulting and Authenticity Aotearoa.
Shaheer had previously served as Chairperson of Fenaka Corporation Limited and as Managing Director of the State Trading Organisation (STO) from 2014 to 2018.
Shaheer began his career as a Project Officer at the Ministry of Trade and Industries, where he played a key role in national projects such as the establishment of Maldivian Air Taxi and the Shell exploration initiative. He later joined STO, where he held leadership roles across departments, including Procurement, Sales, Maintenance, and Legal, before becoming Managing Director. His extensive background in trade, corporate strategy, and government service positions him as a strong asset to HDC’s board.
