Discussions have taken place between Maldives and Philippines to start flights between the two countries.
According to Philippines media outlet, Business Mirror, Chairman of the Maldivian Civil Aviation Authority, Ibrahim Faizal has expressed interest to commence flights between both countries.
Executive Director of Civil Aeronautics Board of Philippines has confirmed the official discussions will begin around second quarter of 2018, in their capital Manila.
Maldives has only transit flights to and from Philippines. Current flights from Philippines to the Maldives are via Malaysia, Singapore or Japan.
The country attracts a significant portion of travelers to Maldives while many of its citizens are employed in various hospitality outlets and businesses in the island nation.
