Fathimath Inaya has been appointed as the Foreign Secretary of the Maldives, marking the first time in the country’s history that a woman has been appointed to this position.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu presented Inaya with her appointment letter during a ceremony at the President’s Office on Tuesday morning.
She began her diplomatic career in 1996 and has held various positions in the Foreign Ministry, including deputy minister, director for foreign relations, joint secretary in bilateral relations, and assistant director for SAARC.
In a statement announcing Inaya’s appointment, the President’s Office highlighted the Maldivian administration’s strong commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equity.
In terms of education, Inaya holds a Master’s in International Studies from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies and Asian Studies from the Flinders University of Australia.
