President Begins Official Visit to Germany on Invitation of President Steinmeier

President Mohamed Muizzu has departed for the Federal Republic of Germany on an official visit, following an invitation from Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The visit is scheduled to take place from 9 to 13 February 2026.

During the visit, President Muizzu is expected to hold official talks with President Steinmeier and senior officials of the Germany. Discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations and areas of cooperation of mutual interest. A business forum bringing together representatives from both countries is also planned as part of the programme.

The President is also scheduled to visit Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he will speak on the Maldives’ experience with climate change adaptation. In addition, he will engage with the German Council on Foreign Relations, where he is expected to outline the Maldives’ perspective on the role of the ocean in foreign policy.

The visit takes place in a milestone year for Maldives Germany relations, with 2026 marking 60 years since the two countries formally established diplomatic ties on 5 July 1966.
