President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially designated Valla, located in Dhaalu Atoll, as part of Kudahuvadhoo to facilitate economic activities and support the island’s development.
The change was made through Presidential Decree No. 21/2025 under the Decentralization Act, using the powers vested in the President under Section 134(a) of the Act.
The designation fulfils a commitment made by President Muizzu during a meeting with Kudahuvadhoo residents in March, where he pledged to incorporate Valla into Kudahuvadhoo’s jurisdiction to enhance economic opportunities for the community.
As a result of this decree, the appendix of Presidential Decree No. 2/2025 on the establishment of inhabited islands in the Maldives has been updated and published in the Government Gazette.
The move is expected to strengthen Kudahuvadhoo’s role as a hub within Dhaalu Atoll and encourage new avenues for local economic development.
