President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to delivering campaign pledges across the nation, focusing on 2025 and 2026 as the years to actively fulfil these promises. Speaking to residents of AA. Thoddoo Island on Sunday morning, the President outlined his plans to enhance local farming and tourism, as well as broader development goals.
The President acknowledged that public expectations in 2024 could not be fully met due to constraints imposed by the budget passed under the previous administration. He explained that this budget limited progress, as it had been formulated and approved by the former Finance Minister and parliament. However, he assured that the Government is now moving forward with a budget approved by the current parliamentary majority, enabling the implementation of campaign pledges in a systematic manner.
Focusing on Thoddoo, the President recognised the island’s contributions to farming and local tourism, commending residents for their productivity and expertise in these sectors. He pledged to create more opportunities for these industries to improve the livelihoods of the island’s residents. Additionally, the President highlighted the formation of a Local Authority company by the island council, expressing his administration’s support for such initiatives, including financial and logistical assistance.
Among the key development projects for Thoddoo, the President announced that road development would begin next year, with water and sewerage projects prioritised in the 2025 budget. He also promised improvements in health services, including expanded operations at the health centre and the shift of the island school from two sessions to one, along with the introduction of A-Level education. Furthermore, the President pledged to install a US dollar ATM on the island and consolidate waste management services using green tax revenues.
The President emphasised his administration’s commitment to fair and unbiased governance, ensuring that all Councils and Women’s Development Committees receive full support. Reflecting on national priorities, he noted efforts to rehabilitate inmates through revised programmes and affirmed that his administration would not engage in political vendettas.
During his visit to Thoddoo, the President toured the island’s health centre, speaking with staff to understand their concerns and needs. His visit to North Ari Atoll and Kaafu Atoll continues as part of a two-day tour aimed at engaging with local communities and advancing development initiatives.
