President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that US dollar transaction limits on Bank of Maldives (BML) credit cards will be significantly increased from February next year.
In a post on X on Monday, President Muizzu said the new monthly limits will take effect on 1 February 2026. Under the changes, the limit on BML’s classic credit cards will rise from USD 750 to USD 1,400, the limit on gold cards from USD 750 to USD 1,500, and the limit on platinum cards from USD 1,500 to USD 2,000.
The President described the move as part of “efforts by the government to increase the monthly dollar limit on credit cards.”
While adjustments to dollar limits have typically been announced directly by BML, in recent months President Muizzu has taken the lead in publicising many of the bank’s key decisions. BML has not yet issued a statement on the upcoming changes.
