The High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, Munu Mahawar, made a farewell call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as his diplomatic tenure in the Maldives comes to an end. The meeting, held at the President’s Office, highlighted the strengthened ties between the two nations during the High Commissioner’s tenure.
President Muizzu commended High Commissioner Mahawar for his instrumental role in fostering enhanced bilateral relations, noting that his tenure coincided with a significant phase in Maldives-India cooperation. The President acknowledged the revitalisation of bilateral ties, which have been marked by notable progress in areas of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting the Maldives’ development. He praised President Muizzu’s leadership and collaborative approach, which he said had facilitated progress on shared challenges and strengthened bilateral cooperation.
Both leaders reflected on President Muizzu’s recent State Visit to India in October, during which the two countries signed the Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership. This agreement has since served as a framework for advancing development projects and strengthening economic ties. Discussions also covered the impact of India’s contributions to the Maldives’ economic reforms and social welfare improvements, highlighting ongoing progress in these areas.
The President and the High Commissioner expressed confidence in the ability of both nations to maintain the positive momentum established during the High Commissioner’s tenure. They also explored the potential for expanding avenues of cooperation in the future.
As the meeting concluded, President Muizzu extended his best wishes to High Commissioner Mahawar for his future endeavours and expressed optimism for continued collaboration with his successor to further enhance the Maldives-India development partnership.
