President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to sign contracts for approximately 800 development projects this year, reaffirming his confidence in the government’s ability to fulfil its pledges. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the new airport in M. Muli on Tuesday morning.
Addressing attendees, the President said that many development projects had been at a standstill when his administration assumed office in 2023. According to him, those projects are now ready to move forward, with fresh contracts and renewed timelines.
So far this year, the government has signed agreements with state-owned enterprises for 390 projects across the Maldives. President Muizzu noted that these projects are being closely monitored through weekly cabinet meetings, where he has been urging ministers to expedite progress.
In addition to these, the government expects to sign contracts for around 300 more projects over the next two to three weeks. These will include agreements with private contractors, bringing the total number of projects to between 700 and 800 in the span of five months, beginning from February.
He expressed confidence in the planning and implementation of these projects, stating that they are expected to begin delivering tangible results by next year. The President also reiterated his commitment to equitable development, assuring that no citizen or island would be left behind in the provision of public services.
The remarks were made as President Muizzu officially opened the M. Muli Airport on 20 May 2025, a milestone in the government’s broader infrastructure agenda.
