President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Germany from 9 to 13 February, following an invitation from German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The visit is expected to centre on high-level discussions with President Steinmeier and other senior members of the German Government, covering areas of shared interest between the Maldives and Germany. The engagements are positioned as part of broader efforts to maintain and develop bilateral ties, with attention to political, economic, and environmental cooperation.
Alongside official meetings, President Muizzu is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, focusing on the Maldives’ experience with climate change adaptation. He will also speak at the German Council on Foreign Relations, where his address will outline the Maldives’ perspective on the ocean as a component of foreign policy.
The President will be accompanied by a delegation that includes Cabinet Ministers and representatives from the business community. A bilateral business forum is planned during the visit, aimed at facilitating dialogue between Maldivian and German stakeholders and identifying potential areas for investment and commercial cooperation in the Maldives.
The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany, which were formally established on 5 July 1966. The milestone provides additional context for the engagements, reflecting the longevity of relations as both countries explore avenues for continued cooperation.
