Resort Teams to Face Off in First-Ever Ooredoo Nation Inter-Resort eSports Championship

Ooredoo Maldives is bringing competitive gaming to the island workforce with the launch of the inaugural Ooredoo Nation Inter-Resort eSports Championship 2025, which kicks off this weekend. Scheduled for Friday, 9th May and Saturday, 10th May, the two-day event marks the first time resort teams in the Maldives will compete in an esports tournament of this scale.

A total of 16 teams representing 10 different resorts will battle it out across two of the most popular mobile gaming titles: Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) and PUBG Mobile (PUBGM). The event is part of Ooredoo Nation’s broader ambition to make esports more inclusive and accessible, extending the scene to the country’s hospitality sector and remote communities.

The MLBB tournament will follow a single-elimination format, with the semifinals scheduled for Friday evening. The third-place playoff and the grand final will take place on Saturday. Meanwhile, the PUBGM competition will feature a Battle Royale format, split evenly across both days with six matches on Friday and six more on Saturday.

A prize pool of MVR 10,000 has been allocated for the top-performing teams. The champions will receive MVR 5,000, the runners-up MVR 3,000, and the third-place team MVR 2,000. Matches will be livestreamed via Ooredoo Nation’s YouTube channel, allowing fans and resort colleagues from across the country to tune in and support their representatives.

Through initiatives like this, Ooredoo Nation aims to foster digital participation and build a more connected and dynamic gaming community across the Maldives. The championship reflects Ooredoo’s ongoing commitment to blending technology with social inclusion and creating meaningful digital experiences beyond urban centres.
