Rising Cruise Tourism Brings MS Crystal Symphony Back to the Maldives

The Maldives is witnessing a growing influx of cruise tourists, with the recent arrival of MS Crystal Symphony highlighting the country’s increasing appeal as a stopover for luxury liners. The ship, operated by Crystal Cruises, docked in Male on 23rd March during its 10-day voyage from Mumbai to Mahe Island in Seychelles.

Carrying 307 passengers and 477 crew members, the vessel’s stop in Male marked its second visit to the Maldives this year. The Maldives Immigration’s Seaport Division facilitated the clearance process during the ship’s brief stay.

The Crystal Symphony’s return reflects the Maldives’ rising profile as a destination for cruise tourism, driven by its strategic location along popular Indian Ocean routes. With pristine beaches and vibrant marine life, the Maldives continues to attract high-end cruise operators seeking to provide their passengers with memorable island experiences.

The cruise industry’s presence in the Maldives is expected to expand further, contributing to the country’s tourism sector. With major cruise lines increasingly featuring Maldivian ports in their itineraries, this trend is set to enhance visitor numbers and provide new opportunities for local businesses.

The MS Crystal Symphony, built in 1995 and recently refurbished in 2023, offers an upscale experience with 606 passenger capacity and a range of premium amenities. The current voyage includes stops in Goa, Colombo, and multiple islands in Seychelles before concluding in Mahe on 28th March. Prices for the journey start at USD 4,900 for double occupancy.

As cruise tourism gains momentum, the Maldives is poised to benefit from increased footfall, especially as luxury cruise lines continue to incorporate the country into their regional itineraries.
