Team SIFCO has emerged victorious at the Ooredoo Masrace 2024, securing the championship title with an impressive 999.35 points. The event, held in K. Himmafushi, marks the first segment of this annual fishing tournament, which has become a highly anticipated fixture in the Maldivian calendar.
The 2024 edition of the Ooredoo Masrace forms part of Ooredoo Maldives’ 19th Anniversary celebrations. This year’s tournament will unfold across three locations, with subsequent events scheduled for Lh. Naifaru and GDh. Thinadhoo.
The competition saw a day of intense fishing, with numerous teams vying for the top spot. Team SIFCO’s outstanding performance earned them the championship, along with a cash prize of MVR 25,000. Goalhians Sports Club secured second place with 807.85 points, while Detune Fishing claimed third with 608.1 points.
Several special awards were also presented to individual participants. Hussain Naeem of Masterclass won the Heaviest Catch award with a Faana weighing 37.7 kg. The title of Best Fisherman was awarded to Hassan Azzam of Goalhians Sports Club, who caught a total of 25 fish. Fathmath Fezleen of Detune Fishing was named Best Fisherwoman, having caught 17 fish.
The Ooredoo Masrace continues to be a celebration of Maldivian fishing traditions, bringing together communities in friendly competition and camaraderie. With two more locations yet to host the tournament, excitement remains high as teams prepare for the next challenges.
