SIMDI Group has opened its first KuriFresh outlet in Malé City, establishing a dedicated retail and wholesale channel for locally cultivated produce sourced from Shaviyani Atoll, Ekasdhoo.
The outlet, inaugurated on 15 February 2026, is positioned to serve households, retailers, restaurants and the wider hospitality sector, including resorts. The opening was officiated by State Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare Ismail Azmee Adnan and Permanent Secretary Mohamed Anees.
KuriFresh is SIMDI Group’s agriculture-focused brand developed to cultivate and distribute fresh produce grown in Ekasdhoo. The initiative aligns with the group’s stated long-term objective of strengthening local agricultural capability through the application of modern standards and technology.
Production at the Ekasdhoo site incorporates greenhouse cultivation, hydroponics and structured preparation processes intended to maintain freshness, consistency and compliance with food safety standards before products reach the market. The company states that the project aims to build confidence in Maldivian-grown produce while meeting the quality expectations of both households and the HoReCa sector.
The product range includes fruits such as island banana, papaya, watermelon and pumpkin; vegetables including eggplant, sweet peppers, beefsteak and cherry tomatoes, and English cucumber; a selection of lettuce varieties; and herbs such as basil, dill, mint and rosemary.
In a joint statement, Managing Director Mishal Ibrahim Mohamed Didi and General Manager Yooshau Saeed said the outlet is intended to make high-quality, locally grown produce more accessible while expanding capacity to supply the resort and hospitality industry. They also indicated that the Malé outlet is the first of several planned KuriFresh locations across the Maldives.
The State Minister welcomed the initiative, noting its contribution to improving access to fresh produce and supporting national efforts in agricultural development and food security.
