State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China’s TBEA Group for a project that the state utility company describes as the largest energy initiative in Maldives’ history. The agreement involves the establishment of a 150-megawatt dual-fuel power plant and a high-capacity transmission line connecting Male’, Vilimale’, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi.
The project is a significant step in enhancing the Maldives’ energy infrastructure. The transmission line will create a robust network to meet the increasing energy demands of these vital regions, and the dual-fuel power plant is expected to substantially increase STELCO’s power generation capabilities, ensuring a stable and reliable supply.
STELCO highlighted that the collaboration with TBEA aligns with the company’s vision for sustainable growth, focusing on innovative solutions to address the rising energy demands of the future. STELCO remains committed to advancing the Maldives’ energy sector and contributing to a sustainable future.
