STO to Monitor Ramadan Prices, Ensure Market Supply

State Trading Organisation (STO) has announced plans to stock 24 products across four categories at special discounted prices next week, ensuring market stability ahead of Ramadan.

The company stated that it prioritises easy access to essential goods during the fasting month, with imports focusing on basic food items, vegetables, fruits, processed foods, and cooking utensils. As in previous years, staple items such as eggs, potatoes, onions, coconuts, and dates will be available.

The Ramadan imports include onions, eggs, potatoes, coconuts, and dates under basic food items, while vegetables and fruits will include garlic, ginger, lime, carrots, oranges, cabbage, chilli, guava, watermelon, mangoes, passionfruit, and cucumber. Processed foods such as Nestlé cream, cocoa powder, baked beans, and condensed milk will also be stocked. Cooking ingredients like sunflower oil, vegetable oil, and Basmati rice are part of the special imports.

STO noted that priority would be given to items that are expected to see price increases during Ramadan. The company assured that if the price of a basic commodity reaches unreasonable levels, it would intervene in consultation with the Economic Ministry.

To prevent supply shortages, STO has decided to monitor market prices daily and take immediate action when necessary. The company is also working to import goods in required quantities and ensure distribution across the Maldives.
