Tradian Platform Goes Live, Easing Trade Processes Across the Maldives

The Maldives has officially launched Tradian, the country’s first National Single Window platform, allowing businesses to handle trade-related processes such as permits, documentation, and payments through a single online portal.

From 20 April, traders and logistics operators can start using tradian.gov.mv to submit applications, track approvals, and make payments without visiting multiple government offices. The platform is part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to modernise trade systems, with support from the Asian Development Bank.

The first phase of Tradian includes the following services:

  • Registration of foreign-going vessels
  • ETA/ETD submissions for vessel arrivals and departures
  • Sea cargo manifest submissions
  • Permits for importing pork and liquor
  • Construction material import permits
  • Online payments for trade-related services

These services are integrated with systems operated by Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Ports Limited, and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. All processing takes place electronically, with real-time updates and data sharing between agencies.

By the end of 2025, Tradian is expected to expand to include:

  • Vessel and customs declarations
  • Air cargo manifest submissions
  • Duty exemption and waiver requests
  • All remaining trade-related permits

The goal is to digitise all aspects of the trade process and eventually enable paperless trade with regional partners.

For traders, the platform reduces the need for physical paperwork and shortens processing times, making it easier to track the status of shipments and approvals. Government agencies benefit from faster decision-making, improved transparency, and better revenue monitoring.

Tradian also supports the country’s compliance with international trade standards, including the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement.

Tradian is managed by Tradenet Maldives Corporation Limited, which is responsible for its technical operations, user support, and phased rollouts. The platform was developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, including freight forwarders, shipping agents, and customs brokers.

Businesses can now register on the platform and begin using its available services. Training sessions are also being offered, and updates are shared via @tradianmv on social media.

Tradian is expected to make trade in the Maldives more efficient, transparent, and accessible—setting the stage for long-term improvements in how goods move in and out of the country.
