The Maldives is set to officially roll out its National Single Window platform, Tradian, on 20 April 2025, offering a major digital shift for businesses engaged in international trade. The launch marks a key milestone in the government’s efforts to streamline trade-related services under a unified digital gateway.
Tradian was developed through a partnership between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Tradenet Maldives, and is aimed at enhancing access to government services for importers and exporters. The platform will allow businesses to conduct trade-related transactions with multiple government agencies from a single portal, improving operational efficiency and reducing paperwork.
The initiative was developed under the vision of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade describing it as central to the administration’s goal of strengthening support for local businesses.
In line with a Cabinet decision made on 2 February, the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) will integrate its key services with Tradian starting Sunday. As part of this transition, the agency has announced that from 1 June onwards, these services will be exclusively available through the Tradian platform. MPL services to be shifted to the platform include foreign vessel registration, submission of vessel arrival information, and submission of sea cargo import manifests.
The Maldives Customs Service will also move several of its operations to Tradian from 20 April, including registration of shipping agents, registration of foreign-going vessels and freight forwarders, and submission of vessel arrival information and sea cargo manifests. However, Customs has clarified that individuals or companies who do not register with Tradian by 1 June will still be permitted to submit manifests and arrival data using existing procedures.
Tradian has been in development since its initial launch in September last year and has undergone rounds of consultation with stakeholders in the economic sector. According to the government, these engagements were critical to ensuring that the platform meets the real-world needs of the Maldivian business community.
By connecting major trade facilitation bodies such as MPL and Customs within a single network, the platform is expected to reduce transaction times and improve transparency across the import and export process.
