Travel Agencies Given Final Deadline to Submit Annual Reports or Face Licence Revocation

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has issued a final extension for registered travel agencies in the Maldives to submit their annual reports, granting a grace period until 2:00 p.m. on 31 July.

This comes after a significant number of agencies failed to meet the original 30 June deadline required under the country’s travel agency regulation. The regulation mandates all licensed travel agencies to submit a report detailing the previous year’s operations to the ministry by the end of June each year.

In a statement, the ministry said the final extension was granted to address widespread non-compliance and clarified that no further leniency would be offered. Agencies that fail to submit by the 31 July deadline will face the immediate revocation of their travel agency licence.

Any agency whose licence is revoked will have to go through the full application process again if they wish to resume operations. This includes applying anew and receiving approval under the ministry’s standard licensing procedures.

The ministry reiterated that reports received after 2:00 p.m. on the deadline day will not be accepted under any circumstances.

This latest notice is seen as a firm reminder of the government’s intention to ensure accountability and regulatory compliance in the tourism sector, which remains a key pillar of the Maldivian economy.
