The United Nations Resident Coordinator for the Maldives, Mr Hao Zhang, formally presented his credentials to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during a ceremony held at the President’s Office earlier today.
The newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mr Zhang, arrived at the President’s Office in a traditional Haiykolhu cultural procession, escorted from Republic Square by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.
After presenting his credentials, Mr Zhang was warmly welcomed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who acknowledged the United Nations’ vital role in supporting key national priorities such as health, education, and human development.
President Muizzu emphasised the importance of continued UN engagement in helping the Maldives achieve its goal of becoming a fully developed nation by 2040. He also expressed his desire for close collaboration in implementing the recently ratified generational ban on tobacco products and in advancing national efforts to improve mental health and well-being.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Maldives’ membership in the United Nations — a longstanding partnership built on shared commitments to peace, development, and global cooperation.
