Velana International Airport (VIA) handled more than 4.1 million passengers in the first six months of 2025, marking a four percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to figures released by the airport.
Between January and June, VIA served 2,669,969 international passengers, 579,079 domestic passengers and 859,797 seaplane passengers. The busiest day for wheel-based aircraft was 4 January, with 26,658 passengers, while the highest daily seaplane passenger total was recorded on 16 February with 7,439 passengers.
Aircraft movements also rose during the period, increasing by seven percent year-on-year to reach 124,665. This included 17,614 international aircraft movements, 14,110 domestic movements and 92,951 seaplane operations.
The growth comes as VIA’s new international terminal, capable of accommodating 7.5 million passengers annually, was inaugurated last month.
