Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef departed for Dubai on Sunday to represent the Maldives at the World Governments Summit 2025, held from 11th to 13th February. This global event brings together government leaders, international organisations, innovators, and thinkers to discuss and tackle the most pressing challenges shaping humanity’s future.
The summit will centre around six key themes: Effective Governance and Accountability, Financing the Future and the Global Economy, Climate, Crisis Mitigation, and Resilient Cities, Human-Centric Futures and Capacity Building, Global Health Transformations, and Emerging Frontiers and the Future. These themes aim to inspire innovative solutions and foster international collaboration.
Vice President Latheef is scheduled to deliver a statement at the Climate Change Forum, addressing the Maldives’ efforts in mitigating the effects of climate change. Additionally, he will meet with international dignitaries to discuss pressing global issues and strengthen bilateral ties.
Since its establishment in 2013 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the summit has become a leading platform for knowledge exchange and policy innovation, attracting leaders and experts from around the world. Each year, it promotes forward-thinking solutions to ensure sustainable governance and development.
In 2024, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended the summit, sharing his vision for sustainable development in the Maldives, underscoring the nation’s active role in international dialogues addressing climate change and global challenges.
