Villa College Launches Annual ICSRI Conference

Villa College launched its annual International Conference on Social Research and Innovation (ICSRI) on Saturday, bringing together a diverse assembly of researchers, students, and experts to share and discuss their research discoveries and insights.

Taking place from 8th – 9th June in Male’, the chief guest of the conference was UN Resident Coordinator Bradley J Busetto.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, Villa College’s Deputy Vice Rector Dr. Mohamed Adil said the purpose of the conference is to build a strong network among researchers, lecturers, students, and industry experts.

Under the thematic umbrella of “Innovation for Sustainability: Forging the Path Ahead,” a total of 53 research papers were presented across eight categories. They include:
1. Policy, Law, and Governance
2. Entrepreneurship, Finance, and Industry
3. Environment, Sustainability, and Development
4. Human Rights, Gender, and Society
5. Education, Language, and Skill Development
6. Health, Nursing, and Social Work
7. Psychology, Lifestyle, and Well-being
8. Engineering, Technology, and Innovation

Following his speech at the opening ceremony on Saturday, Dr. Adil officially launched ICSRI’s “Research Methods” book.

Dr. Ahmed Anwar, Rector of Villa College, emphasized the significance of ICSRI as a pivotal annual event on the institution’s calendar for Maldivian academics and researchers. He underscored the importance of this year’s theme to address and understand the rapidly changing global climate, science, technology and society.

Apart from the submission of research papers, the conference program included five panel discussions and four keynote speeches.
