Government of Maldives has repatriated 1,000 undocumented Bangladeshi national expatriates, stated Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Ministry said that 1,000 expatriates were repatriated on chartered flights operated by the Maldivian Airlines, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and Bangladesh Air Force.
Repatriation of undocumented Bangladesh expatriated initially began in late 2019, initiated by Ministry of Economic Development, in collaboration with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladeshi High Commission, and Bangladesh government.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdl Momen has assured the cooperation of Bangladesh government towards the operation, according to Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid.
Foreign Ministry noted that the 1,000 undocumented expatriates who have been repatriated so far were repatriated with immense support from the Bangladeshi government.
