Approximately 1450 housing units built around Maldives are in ruins, as per Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Aminath Athifa.
She said this while answering a question of the Thaa Vilufushi MP while speaking in the People’s Majlis.
The Minister further explained that the government has identified the neglected housing units and are currently working on renovating them.
In order to do so, the government has assigned an additional budget of MVR127 million to standardize the housing units to liveable standards.
Hon. Athifa stated that Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo, Kulhudhuffushi, Nolhivramfaru and Thaa Vilufushi contained unfinished units.
She added that out of the 100 housing units in Vilusfushi, structural work has been done on 64 units while the remaining 36 have not even been built.
