16% Increase During First Month of Maldives Tourism Season

The first month of Maldives tourism high season (spanning from November to April) has shown a 16% increase in arrivals in comparison to last year.

According to the statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism, a total of 104,572 tourists visited Maldives last year in November, versus 90,218 tourists during the same month previous year. The largest number of tourists were reportedly from China, although the number has seen a slight dip from 343,259 the previous year to 308,077 tourists in 2016. However, the numbers from South Asian countries as a whole, and from European countries has also reportedly increased significantly.

High Season for Maldives falls in time for the winter season in Europe and also coincides with several important annual holidays such as Christmas and New Year, Orthodox Christmas, Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day.
