Two new High Commissioners to the Maldives presented their credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday.
Firstly, the High Commissioner of Singapore to the Maldives, H.E. Soo Kok Leng, presented his credentials to President Solih at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.
At the meeting afterward, the President congratulated the High Commissioner on his new appointment and reaffirmed the two countries’ long-standing bilateral relations based on shared values and people-to-people contact.
The President and the High Commissioner also discussed various issues of common interest, including regional and international collaboration, trade and investment cooperation, tourism cooperation, and climate adaptation. The High Commissioner also commended President Solih and his administration on the successful management of Covid-19 in the Maldives.
The new High Commissioner of Pakistan to the Maldives, Vice Admiral (Retd.) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani also presented his credentials to President Solih on Tuesday.
Meeting the High Commissioner afterward, the President congratulated him on his new appointment. The President and the High Commissioner discussed the long-standing historical relations between the two countries based on mutual respect, understanding, shared values, and faith. They also discussed ways to further enhance cooperation at regional and international fora on mutual interest areas, including education, health, sports, and defence.
Speaking at the meeting, the President conveyed his deepest sympathies and condolences to the government and people of Pakistan following the devastation and loss of life caused by the recent floods in Pakistan. The President and the High Commissioner concluded the meeting in the hopes of renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
