Maldives witnessed a 25% rise in imports and 9% decline in exports during the year of 2018. Taking a look at the statistics of Maldives Customs Service, 47 billion rufiyaa worth goods were imported in 2018 to the Maldives. In comparison with 2017, this is a 25% rise. 2017 brought about only 38 billion rufiyaa worth of goods.
The three largest import markets of Maldives in 2018 were UAE, China and Singapore. Out of the total amount of good imported in to Maldives in 2018, UAE occupied 18%, China 17% while Singapore took up 13%.
Even though the amount of imports rose in 2018, the exports declined by a 9%, dropping from 3 billion rufiyaa worth goods in 2017 to 2.8 billion rufiyaa worth goods in 2018.
The three largest export markets of 2018 of Maldives in 2018 were Thailand, Germany and England. While 36% of the total amount of goods were exported to Thailand, 13% was exported to Germany and 9% was exported to England.
