Ukulhas convention centre has been completed and handed over to the island council during a special ceremony.
The centre constructed by Amin Construction under the inspection of the Ministry of Planning is the first convention centre built in a local island for commercial purposes.
The Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam signed on the documents on behalf of the government while Ukulhas Council President Shaukath Ibrahim signed on behalf of the island council.
Speaking during the ceremony, Minister Aslam noted that the project was one which has been completed at the earliest.
The project was completed within 29 days of signing the initial agreement where works on the convention centre were handed on July 25th.
The Ukulhas convention can accommodate up to 400 people and consists of a multipurpose hall, including a meeting room, VIP meeting room, two classrooms, admin office, cafeteria and a waiting area in addition to eight toilets.
The convention center was built by the Maldivian government with financial assistance provided by the Indian government. MVR 20.8 million was spent on the project, out of which MVR 7.8 million were a grant provided by the Indian government.
