Maldives national carrier Maldivian commenced flights to Chengdu, the capital of China’s Sichuan province, last Tuesday.
Maldivian operator Island Aviation Services’ managing director Abdul Haris told Mihaaru that Maldivian will operate weekly flights to Chengdu. He added that they had prepared well for the new expansion, including marketing. In addition to Chengdu, Maldivian currently operates to six destinations in China.
According to Haris, Maldivian aims to bring in 1,300 tourists from China to the Maldives weekly. He also disclosed plans for Maldivian to expand its routes to several other destinations across the world, which will commence before the end of the year. Maldivian currently boasts a fleet of 17 aircrafts. Its latest addition was a seaplane acquired last month.
