The President has today used the executive authority vested upon him by Article 115 of the Maldives’ Constitution to dissolve the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and effect an administrative reorganization of the Government.
Under these changes the Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure will be renamed the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, and will take over the responsibilities of the dissolved Ministry. Staff previously employed at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development will be transferred to the newly named Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.
The President has also accepted the letter of resignation delivered to him by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Aminath Athifa.
Athifa made the decision to resign in light of poor health rendering her unable to perform the duties required of a cabinet portfolio. The former Minister had shared details of her health condition with the President prior to making her decision. While accepting her resignation, the President also expressed gratitude to Ms. Athifa for her service and wished her well in her future endeavors.
