Statistics from Customs reports have shown a 7% increase in exports in the Maldives in 2016 compared to the previous year.
According to the records, Maldives exported a total of MVR 3.9 billion worth of goods in 2016, which is MVR 0.2 billion higher than the MVR 3.7billion reported from the year before. The reports also showed that the largest share of exports was to Thailand, at 33% of the exports in total, with Sri-Lanka following in second place at 11% and the United States at third with 9%.
According to the Customs Statistics, a number of imports to the Maldives has also increased last year as compared to 2015, with a clear 12% increase. The top three imported goods in the Maldives was Machinery and Electronics, Food, and Fuel respectively.
