President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed Mahmood Riyaz as the Deputy Commissioner of Maldives Customs Service on Wednesday.
Maldives Customs Service states Mahmood had been promoted to the position of Deputy Commissioner with regards to the appointment of its former Deputy Abdulla Shareef as the Commissioner of Customs on Tuesday.
Riyaz previously served as the Deputy Chief Superintendent with more than 27 years of experience at Maldives Customs Service.
Customs’ managerial hierarchy consists of two deputy commissioners. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Mohamed Maniu, was chosen for the position on July 8, 2019.
From July 8th, 2019, until being designated acting chief of customs on April 11th, 2020, Shareef served as Deputy Commissioner, after the death of previous Commissioner-General Ahmed Nooman.
