The High Commission of India to the Maldives has announced that Maldivians will be able to travel to India without a visa from October 15th onwards.
According to the tweet made by the High Commission earlier today, from 15th October onwards, no visa will be required for Maldivians travelling to India for medical, business and tourism purposes.
Maldives will be the first beneficiary of visa free travel since pandemic-induced travel restrictions were imposed by India in March 2020. This move restores the December 2018 bilateral visa-free agreement between the two neighbouring countries.
Taking to Twitter, Foreign Minister of Maldives Abdulla Shahid thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar for considering the request to resume the agreement.
