Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) conducted a ‘Port Open Day’ yesterday to educate school students about the various aspects of port operations and foster their interest in the field.
Over 100 students, aged 13 to 18, hailing from multiple schools in Male’ and the atolls, actively engaged in this educational initiative. Among the participating institutions were Huravee School, Imaduddin School, Kalaafaanu School, Thaajudheen School, Salahuddin School in Hulhumale’, Huvadhoo School, Baa Atoll Educational Centre, N. Hen’badhoo School, and R. Inguraidhoo School.

The event encompassed two primary sessions, during which the students received insights into various port-related aspects and had the unique opportunity to witness the day-to-day operations at the Male’ Commercial Port. Furthermore, the event provided them with hands-on experience in operating the machinery used for safety and security drills within the port premises. Students were also able to explore the Hulhumale’ International Terminal.

The core objective of this event was to instil a sense of interest and enthusiasm among students towards pursuing careers in port operations. Additionally, it aimed to disseminate information about MPL’s initiatives, enhance awareness within the port sector, and foster stronger relationships with the company’s stakeholders.
In a show of appreciation, MPL organised a lucky draw, with three fortunate students being awarded laptops as tokens of gratitude.
