The Finance Ministry reports that the Green Fund expended MVR 465 million in September this year. Marking a decrease of MVR 106.6 million compared to the same period last year when the fund spent MVR 572.2 million.
The monthly breakdown of Green Fund spending from January to September is as follows:
- January: MVR 74.5 million
- February: MVR 66 million
- March: MVR 77.4 million
- April: MVR 35.9 million
- May: MVR 7.6 million
- June: MVR 26.2 million
- July: MVR 69.9 million
- August: MVR 78.2 million
- September: MVR 29.5 million
In September, the Green Fund implemented projects related to beach protection, water and sewerage, and waste disposal.
The highest revenue received in September was from K Atoll, contributing MVR 19.6 million. The second-largest income came from ADh Atoll, providing MVR 8.3 million.
Initiated in October 2016, the green tax is imposed on tourists visiting tourist resorts, hotels, guesthouses, and tourist vehicles to fund environmental conservation initiatives in the country.
