Villa College has announced the launch of a new Master’s programme in Professional Accounting, further expanding its academic offerings in the field of business and finance.
The inauguration ceremony for the programme was graced by the presence of the Minister of Finance, Dr Mohamed Shafeeq, alongside Villa College’s Vice Rector, Dr Ali Najeeb. Minister Shafeeq commended the initiative, highlighting the importance of empowering Maldivians in the fields of accounting and finance.
Dean Abdulla Nafiz of Villa College’s Faculty of Business Management outlined the curriculum, emphasising its relevance to contemporary accounting practices. “The course encompasses vital modules covering auditing, governance, evaluation, taxation, and other significant areas, providing students with a comprehensive foundation to excel in the field,” he remarked.
Nafiz also expressed the college’s commitment to seeking accreditation from esteemed bodies such as CIMA and ACCA, further enhancing the programme’s credibility and value in the professional sphere.
Minister Shafeeq underscored the significance of indigenous talent development in the accounting sector, citing the programme as a pivotal step towards reducing reliance on foreign expertise. He lauded Villa College’s proactive role in fostering local capacity across critical disciplines.
Dr Ali Najeeb, Vice Rector of Villa College, elucidated on the programme’s tailored design, crafted in consultation with industry leaders to address emerging trends and challenges in accounting. He assured prospective students of the programme’s efficacy in preparing them for diverse career paths within the accounting domain.
The Masters programme in Professional Accounting, accredited by the Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) at level 9, boasts a one-year duration. Villa College has announced that applications for the programme will be accepted during the May intake, welcoming aspiring accountants to embark on a journey towards professional excellence.
