The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is removing unauthorised huts and commercial outlets from the beach areas of Hulhumale Phase II.
In May, HDC notified all unauthorised huts and commercial outlets to dismantle their structures by June 15. However, several individuals continued to engage in commercial activities without the necessary permits after the deadline. These include snack carts, coffee stalls, and food huts.
HDC has previously stated that removing these huts and outlets is part of a comprehensive beach development strategy, whereby the corporation plans to develop designated spaces and facilities tailored for small businesses.
Responding to ongoing complaints about the ad hoc placement of these structures, HDC reaffirmed its commitment to revitalising the beachfront by introducing new amenities and maintaining regulations once the new facilities are operational.
