This significant growth highlights a positive trend in the Maldivian tourism sector, contributing to the overall recovery and expansion of the industry. Looking at the broader picture, the cumulative tourist arrivals for the first seven months of 2024 reached 1,165,933. This represents a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2023, which saw 1,060,267 arrivals. The overall growth for the year reflects the Maldives’ resilience and ability to attract tourists despite global challenges.

Monthly Comparison and Trends

The trend of increasing tourist numbers is evident across most months in 2024. January and March saw notable increases of 11.5% and 11.9% respectively, compared to the same months in 2023. February remained the standout month with the highest growth rate of 22.2%. However, May 2024 experienced a slight decline of 0.9% compared to May 2023, indicating some fluctuations in the otherwise upward trend.

The significant increase in July 2024 aligns with the overall positive trajectory but also suggests a robust peak season performance, possibly influenced by global travel patterns and economic factors.
