The Ministry of Tourism has announced the upcoming South Tourism Development Symposium 2024, focusing on enhancing tourism in the southernmost atolls of the Maldives. The seminar will concentrate on Huvadhu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City, and Addu City, regions identified as having significant potential for tourism growth.
With the government prioritising the development of tourism in the southern atolls, the Ministry revealed that preparations are underway to hold consultation meetings with key industry stakeholders. The symposium, which will take place at the Manhattan Business School, aims to bring together experts and stakeholders from various sectors to discuss strategies for increasing tourist arrivals to the region.
A key focus of the symposium will be improving international connectivity to Huvadhu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City, and Addu City. The discussions will also identify the challenges hindering the development and expansion of tourism in these areas. The event will explore potential measures and ongoing government efforts to formulate short- and medium-term plans to boost tourism in the south.
The symposium is expected to attract a wide range of participants, including tourism service providers, developers, international airline operators, travel agencies, industry associations, local councils, and representatives from various government ministries. Through this collaborative effort, the government aims to drive sustainable tourism development in the southern provinces, aligning with broader national economic goals.
