The Institute of Directors Maldives (IOD Maldives) has announced its inaugural conference, the IOD Maldives Governance Conference 2024, which is set to take place on Thursday, 29 August 2024, at Kurumba Maldives Resort. The event, themed “Elevating Corporate Governance for a Prosperous Future,” aims to bring together internationally renowned experts and local leaders to advance excellence in corporate governance.
The conference will feature key figures in governance from around the globe, including Ms Kirsten Patterson, Chair of the Global Network of Directors Institutes. Ms Patterson, who leads a network representing over 150,000 directors, will deliver the keynote address, sharing her insights on trends and opportunities in corporate governance. Other prominent speakers include:
• Dr Mahamood Shougee, Chancellor of the Maldives National University and former Minister of Education and Tourism, with an extensive background in governance and education.
• Ms Maali Q. Khader, CEO of the Middle East Institute of Directors, recognised for her expertise in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in the Middle East.
• Mr Paul Smith, founder of Future Directors and a globally recognised thought leader in governance and technology, who has played a crucial role in curating this event as Special Advisor to IOD Maldives.
• Ms Mariyam Visam, Registrar of Companies and Board Member of the Capital Market Development Authority, who has a strong background in economic policy and corporate governance.
• Ms Fareeha Shareef, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Nexia Maldives, with over two decades of experience in strategic management, financial planning, and auditing.
The conference will also mark the launch of a benchmark study on corporate governance practices in the Maldives, covering a wide range of business entities, including private, family-led businesses, and small to medium enterprises. The study aims to promote the adoption of best governance practices to support national prosperity.
The event has been made possible with the support of strategic partners, including the Maldives Capacity Development and Governance Institute, Women on Boards, and the Kandūfā Foundation. Invitations are extended to all business leaders, stakeholders, and professionals interested in exploring topics such as ESG, artificial intelligence, and boardroom dynamics to build a roadmap for excellence in corporate governance.
